Grade II listed home, Somerset

Drayton Manor

Melanie Hall – Interior design
2018

Drayton Manor is a stunning Grade II listed Georgian home in Somerset, set in 7 acres of picturesque gardens. The interiors have been extensively renovated and refurbished by owner & designer, Melanie Hall, to the highest standards in ultra-modern style, whilst respecting the authenticity of this 1800’s Manor house. The main house was presumed to have been built in 1834, whereas the rear part of the house supposedly dates back to the 1500’s.

The interior design, rugs and some furniture in Drayton Manor were custom-designed and produced by Hall, with “pops” of colour throughout. She used a wide spectrum of textures and materials, such as stainless steel, solid acrylic, marble and composite stone, vintage geometric wallpapers, pure New Zealand wool carpets, and walnut-veneered cabinetry. Her own furniture designs serve as focal points throughout the property, including (but not limited to) the oval 12-seater Corian (solid surface) and stainless steel dining table, the “circle of love” seating area (Orangery), the mirrored lounge bar, her father’s “Chambers” side tables, the Jasper chair & footstool (named after her son), and all of the rugs. Hall adds further interest and timelessness to her own custom designs by adding key European designer classics throughout, including a Florence Knoll white leather sofa, Mies Van de Rohe Barcelona chair and footstool, Christophe Pillet (Cappellini) swivel chairs, Philippe Starck Passion dining chairs in white leather, and Jonathan Adler mirrored round coffee table, to name but a few.

Whilst Melanie respects the histroy of this Georgian home, she has fuelled the spaces with elements “futurism”, innovation and an element of fun. Subsequently, Drayton Manor has been transformed to become a more seamless, spacious four-bedroom home, for 21st century family living, whilst retaining its connection to the past.
